Parties, Shopping, & Water Parks…

We had a busy and exciting weekend that started Friday night with Katie Belle’s 4th birthday party.  The theme was Tinkerbell—that is the craze among little girls these days!  It was a great time and the kids ate dinner, then had birthday cake, then helped Katie open her presents, then made a craft, got candy from the piƱata, and then played duck-duck-goose.

All the kids were invited to stay overnight for a sleepover but only Riley and Jacob ended up staying.  Addi was going to stay—we had her bag packed and even though momma wanted her to come home, I knew that she would have a blast so I was on board for her to stay for the sleepover!  After everyone was in their PJs, the birthday girl wanted to watch Shrek.  Craig and I were getting ready to leave to go home.  As far as I knew Addi had never seen Shrek.  Well, come to find out, Addi is TERRIFIED of Shrek—I guess because he’s a big, green, ugly monster!!  When she is scared of something, she puts her hands over her ears and cries and that’s exactly what she did.  That’s all it took.  She wanted to come home with us.  Lyndi tried to get Katie to watch something different so that Addi would stay but then Katie cried because she wanted to watch Shrek.  I told Lyndi that it was Katie’s birthday so she could watch whatever she wanted and I took my sweet, chicken-little baby girl home with me!  Seems like she is scared of lots of things these days, but I think it is probably just a phase she is going through.  We have a neighbor whose dogs bark CONSTANTLY—it’s so annoying—but it’s never scared her before.  Lately, when the dogs are barking, she covers her ears and will tell me, “those dogs scare me.”
Saturday morning, Lyndi picked me and Addi up and we headed to Cincinnati.  Ann and her kids were in her van and we followed them.  3 adults and 5 children ages 4 and under.  We were headed to the outlets to do some major shopping (so we thought)…  The guys were all coming up later that afternoon after Jason and Randy got off work.  Craig decided he’d rather wait on the other guys and gave up the opportunity to shop with the ladies and kids (shocking).  Austin had play practice and then had to work on Sunday so he didn’t come at all.  He stayed with Craig’s parents.
So we got to the outlets at around noon and you would have thought they were giving stuff away.  IT. WAS. PACKED.  Trying to maneuver strollers through jam-packed stores while little hands reached out and grabbed everything within reaching distance was a “challenge.”  Needless to say, we made it in and out of about 4 stores—all children’s stores, of course.  We did get some good buys but my sanity was becoming questionable.
We headed to the hotel in time to catch most of the UK game and just rest a little.  The kids all needed naps but that didn’t happen!  Once the guys arrived, we decided to go and grab dinner.  The unanimous decision was O’Charley’s.  The wait at O’Charley’s for 6 adults and 5 children was going to be an hour and a half…  NOT!  Craig and I went to Steak and Shake; Lyndi and Randy to Golden Corral; and Ann and Jason to Chilis!!  So much for having dinner together, right?
We went back to the hotel to get ready for bed.  We had a big day tomorrow at the water park across the street, Coco Key.
The hotel was very nice but there was a very large group staying there that occupied probably 2/3 of the hotel.  This group was not quiet.  To make a long story short, this group was still awake at 3AM and still not being very quiet.  We made several calls to the front desk.  Enough said.
Sunday morning, we went to IHOP to have breakfast and with our eyes half-open, headed to the water park.  This was DEFINITELY the highlight of our weekend.  The kids had a blast!!  We stayed there for 5 hours and made sure that the kids were good and worn out!  Addi was asleep before we could get to the truck and slept the whole way home.  I slept a lot of the way too!

Heading to the car....  WIPED OUT!

It was a great weekend!

Valentine’s Day 2012

Our Valentine’s Day was very low-key but nice.  We gave the kids cards and Addi got a goody bag with some heart suckers, ring pops, and candy necklaces.  Austin got some candy and a new picture to hang on the wall of his new room.
I fixed chicken and dumplings and we had a nice dinner together as a family.
It was a great night just to be thankful for our family!

Good times...

Whew!!  Another very busy but very fun weekend has come and gone!  It was my birthday on Friday, so after work, my whole family (Smith’s and Vahle’s) met at Cheddar’s for a birthday dinner!  We had a very good time—it’s always fun when we are all together.  It was great to see my brother since I hadn’t seen him since his birthday at the end of December.  Addi is always happy to see Uncle B!

These little signs were all over the house and on my steering wheel Friday morning--compliments of sweet Austin!
Funny note:  Friday morning, Addi woke up early (before the alarm clock went off), which is very unusual for her.  We have to wake her up VERY early though the week (6:10) and she never wants to get up!  Anyway, she was tossing and turning in the bed, and I said to her, “Addi, you need to be still and go back to sleep.”  Her reply to me was (in her sweet little voice), “Don’t be so bossy, mommy!”  LOL—she has heard that a time or two…  I just closed my eyes and went back to sleep and so did she!
Saturday, Craig had to work and so I took Austin to his play practice Saturday afternoon.  Before dropping him off, we stopped at White Castle to eat lunch.  This was Addi’s first experience with White Castle and she loved it—YIPEE!!  The tradition lives on!  I know most people aren’t fans of White Castle but my entire family loves it.  It all started with my grandparents and they are still big fans!  I was very proud that Addi will carry on our tradition of White Castle love—especially since it’s so healthy and all!!

Saturday night, I made some yummy potato/cheese soup and then the kids and I made Valentine’s cupcakes.  Addi helped to line the pan with the cupcake holders and Austin added the ingredients.  It’s fun baking together and letting her help!  When the cupcakes were iced, she put some red sprinkles on them and then I let her enjoy her creation.  She definitely enjoyed it—ALL OVER!  After that, it was straight to the bath tub.

Sampling the icing...  YUM!

Painting her chest for the UK game!

All clean!

Saturday night after Addi went to bed, Craig and I sat up to watch the UK game which didn’t start until 9.  It was a great game and we are so excited that our Wildcats are doing so well!!
Sunday morning, we had a great service at church.  I’ve been so proud of Addi that she has been going to class for like the last 4 weeks in a row.  The first couple of times, she went into the 3-year old class so that she could go with Katie.  But the last two weeks, she has gone into class by herself—the 2 year olds.  She should actually be in the nursery since she isn’t quite 2 but she won’t stay in there.  I really think she needs to be around older kids because I think she relates to them better since she is such a good little communicator.  She fits in just perfect in the 2-year old class.  They always have a little page to color with a memory verse on it.  She has done a great job at learning her memory verse which is, “Love God with all of your heart.”  The theme has been about love since Valentine’s Day is tomorrow!  I’m so proud of her!

Accessories are a must for church!
Unfortunately after church, Craig hit a concrete pole as we were pulling out of our parking spot.  It was right in his blind spot.  That kind of put a damper on our great morning at church but thankfully it wasn’t another car or a person even!  We will get it fixed—it was just frustrating!
OUCH!

Sunday afternoon, I went to a bridal shower for a dear friend who is like a part of our family.  She (Angela) is marrying a guy from New York.  We are excited that he is moving here instead of her moving there.  She’s waited a very long time for this so we are very happy for her!
It was a great weekend.  It just went by way too fast, of course.  I love having time at home with my family.  I’m so blessed!

LOVE that SWEET face!

Marilyn Monroe pose!

Momma's precious little angel!

Next weekend, we are going to Cincinnati to spend a day at an indoor water park.  I am excited and know that the kids will have a blast!
