Mommy is Home...

In case I’ve never mentioned this before, I LOVE being a mommy.  It’s so hard being a working mommy and being away at work all day, but it is the greatest feeling to come home from work every day and hear my Addison say, “my mommy is home” with excitement as soon as she hears me turn the door knob and walk inside.   I know her enthusiasm won’t last forever but I’m totally enjoying it right now.  It’s the little things that are so very special…
We always enjoy being outside and Addi loves taking charge of the water hose.  She waters my new mums (that she and Daddy picked out for our anniversary which was the 23rd) and she just loves spraying anything that she can find to spray off (bird poop, chalk art, etc..).  She got her shirt wet while watering and asked me to take it off!

She also loves spending time talking to and looking at the animals that are near our house.  We are blessed to have lots of farmland in our subdivision and she enjoys talking to and asking questions about the cows as well as petting and feeding the horses.  She is always asking about where their mommies and daddies are (which is so precious).

It’s not always easy to appreciate the little things in life.  Too often, I find myself bogged down over what seem to be larger issues.  I definitely long for simpler times, but I try to remind myself to appreciate the simple things and thank God for His many blessings.

Summer Update!

The summer is winding down—I can’t believe how fast May, June, and July went by!  I guess when you are busy and having fun, it definitely does fly by.
Lately, we have enjoyed the non-extreme temperatures and have been playing outside a lot—Addi LOVES playing with chalk so we have the most decorated driveway, landscaping bricks, and sidewalks around!
Austin had been practicing all summer for the Summer Family Musical “Seussical” at Lexington Children’s Theatre.  They finished up their practices and began performances recently and it was WONDERFUL.  Their hard work really paid off.  Addi enjoyed it too and did great at sitting still during the performance.  After the show, we wanted to have her picture made with the Cat in the Hat but she wasn’t too sure about getting so close!

I found this trike on Craigslist for her.  She has a pink and purple Radio Flyer tricycle but she just doesn’t quite have the hang of it yet so I bought this for her hoping that it would be easier for her to learn on.  She is doing great and it’s nice that I can just hold on to the handle and help steer her in the right direction.  Steering is probably the area she needs the most practice on!  She really has improved a lot since getting this though!

Craig has been working on the landscaping bricks in the front of our house.  We knew it was going to take a lot of bricks to do it but so far, he is up to 323 bricks and still going strong!  Needless to say, it’s been a huge project but he is quite the brick-layer!  Eventually, we plan to add some shrubs, trees, flowers, etc.. to our landscaping but for now, it is just dirt, rocks, and landscaping bricks!  This is a picture of Addi watering the flowers--which is HER job!  She loves it!

My mother and father-in-law, Ruth and Roy Vahle, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 5th.  What an accomplishment!  We all got together for a dinner party at Equestrian Woods Clubhouse to celebrate the occasion and had a great time.

We have gone to Herrington Lake a couple times recently.  The first time we went was not a lot of fun.  Our boat apparently had a dead battery and while on the lake, we had to be jumped 4 times!  Needless to say, we got a new battery as soon as we got back to land.  The second trip was much more enjoyable—we spent a lot of time swimming and just cruising around before stopping at Chimney Rock Marina for dinner on the lake.
Of course there has also been trips to get ice cream, froyo, and SLEEPOVERS too!

Bad hair day!

Another exciting announcement:  Austin has his DRIVER’S LICENSE!  He passed on the first time—no real surprise there.  He is a great driver.  He will be starting his junior year on August 15th and will be driving himself to school!
